Having read the book, this is everything I had ever hoped for in the film version. Great acting, epic sets, fantastic effects and an enthralling plot - what more could anyone want? Well. I want parts two and three already! This must be the film of 2001 without a doubt. Ten out of ten - top marks - second to none... This was not the great fantasy film (the honor still belongs to Star Wars) nor was it that enthralling of a movie. The plot, while not hard to follow, was just boring. The direction was nothing special, just the same angles and movements I've seen a thousand times before. The cast merely worked, with the only real exception one actually. Another thing that bothers me is it's place at number 1 on the IMDb chart. You may think it's an excellent movie, but is it really the best film of all time? What we have here are a bunch of 15 year olds, only having seen Star Wars and LotR, going and giving it a 10. Believe me, that number will go down in the following months. As far as films last year, Memento, Amélie and the Royal Tenenbaums were much better.

Fantastic what a magical world Peter Jackson created. I love this movie and the whole Lord of the Rings-trilogy.

The scene when Gandalf falls down in Moria and says, Fly you fools! and especially Boromir's death are so emotional, you almost cry. And the score by Howard Shore is absolutely brilliant because it fits perfectly to the movie.

Simply: A Masterpiece.
